good day in town for vegans
Today at a local grocery store I discovered Gardein brand “veg meats” that I’ve eaten at Sublime, a vegan restaurant in Fort Lauderdale. I’ve tried the Gardein “veal” at Sublime. It was scrumptious!
My local grocery store has several kinds of Gardein in the refrigerated special foods section. You can get a $1 coupon on the Gardein website, plus there were some Gardein packages with another coupon sticker attached.
I think the Gardein products are really tasty, but the meat-like texture and consistency kind of grosses me out a bit now since I haven’t eaten meat in years. I have to keep telling myself it’s veggie. I’m not sure I’d buy it just for me, but I’ll definitely buy it to serve to my omnivore friends and family.
Today I bought the Tuscan breasts and used one in a pesto panini for my omnivore husband. He had no idea it wasn’t meat. After he finished eating his sandwich, I confessed to him my vegan trickery. He was truly surprised, but admitted that it was “delicious.” I can’t wait to trick him with the bbq skewers!
P.S. Just so you know, I have not been paid by Gardein to post this.

I have sometimes thought the concept of turning veggies into meat-like foods to be rather curious.
